Default Manual 1st faster than drive

My truck has never been a rocket off the line, and I just excepted it, because it is the rest of the time, but I was taking a friend for a drive the other day, and he told me to put it in 1st manually, so it would cackle in high rpms. I did it and noticed that it took off twice as fast as it does in drive. Then I took a drive by myself, and realized it does take off like a rocket, but only when in low 1 on the shifter.
I have hptuners, and have looked everywhere in the transmission section but can't find anything that should affect this. Can someone point me in the right direction.

It will be the same from a stop. The only time I ever put it in 1st to go faster is when I'm going to do a 20-30 mph punch when I race someone so I dont have to wait for a downshift.

I'm talking about from being stopped, to punching it, once I'm moving there is no problem at all, if I punch it going 10-30 mph it barks the tires pretty good.

I agree. 1st gear is 1st gear no matter how you slice it.

I totally agree, but when I punch it in drive it will turn the tires over about 1-2 revolutions then bite, but when I do the same thing in 1st it will smoke em. I've done it about 30 times now and it's the same every time.

You have to be running different speeds then because it is not possible for it to run any better....when your in first your rpm's are higher and it is making more power....maybe when your in drive, it isnt kicking down into 1rst, only 2nd.........watch to see what speed it runs in those gears......then you will know what it is doing

There are some differences in manual 1 and 2. See the chart below.

So there is a difference, with selector in 1st. the "overrun clutch" "Lo/Rev clutch" is applied where in "D" they would not be. Interesting....

what do those do?
