Default From mail order tune to self tuning

I currently have a LOCKED mail order turbo tune and I want to start tuning myself with hp tuners.

What steps do I need to take to start tuning myself? Do I need a new/used PCM? or is there a way to unlock the current PCM and start tuning from there?

Have the mail tuner unlock it. Otherwise, if that's not successful go on ebay.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure mail tuner won't unlock it, so what do I look for on eBay? I have a 2005 silverado, do I look for a 2005 silverado PCM?

If I do the PCMofNC route would I have to send them the PCM?

EPS can unlock it too. Yes you have to send them the PCM. You might check some salvage yards. I can get those PCMs for $50 from yards around here. But then you run into licensing costs getting your calibration and vin # in it.

Ok thanks man, say I get it unlocked by a vendor etc. will the current tune still be there? If so, then I wouldn't need to rewrite everything and I can start adding/make changes to current tune?

Sounds like either way i do it, unlock or salvaged PCM I'll have to get vin# licensed by hpt. Right?

I think PCMofNC unlocks it and flashes back to stock.

EPS can just unlock it and preserve the tune that is in it. That is what they did for several that I have sent them. They charged me $75 plus the return shipping. You should call them and talk to Geoff about what he can do and his pricing.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'll get in touch with EPS because I want to keep the current tune as my base tune. Thanks again guys.

Im sorta in the same page as you, other than my tuning will be done by a tuner...

Is your "locked" tune an HP tune or something else?

Im running into the problem that my locked mail order tune is an EFI live, and my tuner uses HP. I wanted to keep my mail order tune and fine tune it, but seems like it might be impossible.
