Default learning to use hp tuners

ive been thinking about getting hpt or efilive but ive never used a program like these before.what i would like to know is for the people who bought these and had no experience before how long did it take to figure out what your doing.i know that everyone needs to ask questions about things time to time but were you overwelmed by it at first.i just dont wanna buy it then not be able to know how to use it.from what ive read they are both great products and i dont want a battle over which is better. just need help in deciding if a dumbass like me can figure it out.

i bought hp tuners and had no clue.. Ive done tons and tons of reading and I am slowly starting to figure things out.. its not bad and there is TONS of support out there no matter what software you choose.. If you are going to mod your truck a good bit I think its a must have.. even if you have someone else tune it, its good to be able to scan and log it and then them be able to email you a new tune instead of having to send a pcm.. I say go for it!!

When I first bought my copy 3+ years ago of hptuners I was definitly a bit overwhelmed at first seeing 400+ parameters staring me in the face...but you learn that many will never need to be changed & the ones that do are pretty self explanatory...& if not theres an explanation literally right under the parameter/table. It took me about a month before I was comfortable with tuning my vehicle & probably 6 months before I even did a code deletion on someone elses lol. It will click, but it does take time & reading.

I created this link for newbies either thinking about tuning or already are in it.

It is one of those things that you can read about and read and read, but until you actually have it its hard to learn. Once you have it and start looking through tunes and reading it will make sense. It just takes some time and patience, once you learn though it is great to know and have.

HP Tuners is a sponsor here on PT.net

Our Standard version is $499

Our Pro version is $649

the pro hardware adds inputs/outputs & standalone datalogging of up to 1hr 30mins over the standard version. Those are the only differences.

I say the pro version is definitely worth the extra money. It's nice to be able to data log without the computer hooked up and most who really get in to tuning will eventually want to be able to hook up a wideband O2 sensor. HPT FTW!

If you like, you can download the EFILive software here and play around with it. It will be in demo mode, but it will give you a feel of how the software is laid out and what the tables look like. It's the full version of the software that has all the table the normal version has, it just won't let you save any changes in it. Let me know if you have any questions about anything.

i just dont know if i can be patient enough to learn for several months to finally tune the truck. it would aggravate the hell outta me that i couldnt tune the truck like within a week or so when i could get a mail order tune and just pop it in(sounds lazy i know).and i also am worried that even when i do learn to use it on a average level that it still wont be as good as a tune that a professional can guesstimate and mail to me.by the way i checked out that link for the efilive and do i just download any of the files listed on that page for the demo mode or is there a specific one that i should be trying?
