Default Hey look another fan question

Before I go on I did search for this. I didn't find what I was after so here we are.

How much control do we have over the fans using the computer? I am looking for it from a cold start start a 0% on both fans and slowly go up as the engine temp does. As it goes up around 50% (or whatever the best noise:performance) then fan #2 kicks on slow and gets higher. It is way better than having 1 fan roaring at 100% all the time.

As you might have noticed I am going for the quietest as can be. So do we have control over percentages or is it a on/off kinda thing?

There is a Fan Desired % vs ECT. I've never tried turning the fans on at cold idle and ramping them up like you stated. I personally dont see a reason for it but that table is there on my 2003 file.

Yea I guess that would be kind of stupid. Forget that part as it wouldn't really make sense and almost be a waste of time.

Thanks for the quick answer and that is what I wanted. So at normal temp I can set them to be quiet then turn off when driving. Perfect.

Can anyone confirm this setting on the 2000 computers?

On my E38 the low limit is higher than my normal coolant temp with a 180deg T-stat. So I personally haven't been able to have auto fan activation other than switching on the A/C. There is a manual "test" for the fans in the VCM section of my HPTuners scanner. Any time i want to manually turn on my fans, i use it. I'm sure there is an equivalent in EFI.
