Default Harness Reconditioning

Havent had 2 much luck with this but maybe one of you has. I picked up a 08 6.0 harness for my truck for a 6l90 conversion. The harness i found is complete but the tape and some of the plastic loom is deteriorated. Is there anywhere to get OE style harness tape and loom? Would it be better to just cover it with the braided split loom and tape off the ends vs the OE that tapes most of the harness up? Any input would be much appreciated, thanks.

I believe its just a standard plastic split loom. The tape though is not standard electrical tape from what I understand.

Maybe contact some of the companies that re wire harness's and see what they use.

I have used EFIconnection in the past for specific things but never there tape.

Some of the harness have an electrical PVC type tape and in some spots they use an abrasive resistant cloth tape

I have found that "good" electrical tape such as 3M will leave a sticky black residue on the wiring should you ever have to remove the tape for any reason. Cheap tape like from Harbor Freight leaves no such residue. I actually buy lots of the Harbor Freight tape and use it almost exclusively for wrapping wire looms and harnesses when I installed alarms, remote starts, and audio systems.I used it when I wired up my E-fans and its holding up well in the under hood environment. I did my efan conversion almost 3 years ago now. I save the 3M tape for actual electrical connections.

Napa, Carquest, O'Reilly, etc. all carry the split loom in many different diameters. Just tell them what sizes you need, and what length, and they will sell it to you.

Is that loom any good. Ive seen several looms basically fall apart after a little bit of engine compartment heat.

I haven't had any issues with that (in Alaska).
