I have no hard evidence here but
maybe this will help
I ran a 8.9 in the 1/8th with a
13.0 to 13.4afr tune 28* timing
checked on wideband

this showed as 840-850 on my narrowbands
played with it at the track and fattened it up some
to where the n-bands showed 880-890 and knocked it down to 8.7 same day
I dont know how that correlates to afr and the whole tq vs hp thing and may not be helpful but Im beginning to believe my truck favors a little more fuel

well im running 34 derees of timing and a/f now is at 12.8 untill i get to 6k to 6800 then it goes to 11.7 i might just need to take some fuel away on the topend, im pulling 8.60 in the 1/8th in 90+ weather. thanks for the help.

I read somewhere about running fat down low for tq
lean in the middle and then fatten it back up right at peak and after for a safety buffer

are you running stock heads?
do you see any knock with the 34*?
Ive noticed mine doesnt but doesnt show much gain either with extra timing

when I get mine back on the dyno Im gonna shoot for 12.5 up to 4000
12.8-13.0 4000-5500
and 12.5 beyond that
then Im gonna play with the timing until I find optimum
hope it works

Talking

leave it alone. from 12.8 to 13.4 is a good a/f ratio. 6800 and it goes rich. heh. that just might be helping out at that rpm.

Excellent advice. I have tuned many import cars that way and will continue to do so. A margin of safety in any daily street driven car is always welcome

You may want to turn COT Cat over temp off or adjust it, that is what is most likely your 12.8 to 11.7 problem

unless you have a wideband stoich afr is commanded unless you enter pe. I would pull timing and try and get your fueling around what gamedawg is saying. There is a point where you can keep adding timing and wont see any gains I tend to think its around 28 degrees with the 5.3 wot, the rest is fueling. Less timing and leaner will make more power and net better times in this instance.
