I have no hard evidence here but
maybe this will help
I ran a 8.9 in the 1/8th with a
13.0 to 13.4afr tune 28* timing
checked on wideband
this showed as 840-850 on my narrowbands
played with it at the track and fattened it up some
to where the n-bands showed 880-890 and knocked it down to 8.7 same day
I dont know how that correlates to afr and the whole tq vs hp thing and may not be helpful but Im beginning to believe my truck favors a little more fuel
maybe this will help

I read somewhere about running fat down low for tq
lean in the middle and then fatten it back up right at peak and after for a safety buffer
are you running stock heads?
do you see any knock with the 34*?
Ive noticed mine doesnt but doesnt show much gain either with extra timing
when I get mine back on the dyno Im gonna shoot for 12.5 up to 4000
12.8-13.0 4000-5500
and 12.5 beyond that
then Im gonna play with the timing until I find optimum
hope it works

Excellent advice. I have tuned many import cars that way and will continue to do so. A margin of safety in any daily street driven car is always welcome
