have you also taken a look at Hp tuners?
I have efi live its pretty amazing, but alot of tuners run HP tuners...
If you're gonna do your own tuning i suggest buying a wideband o2

havent looked up hp tuners but i will. i do want to tune the truck myself, for future mods. is the efi user friendly and does it tune everything that a shop or dyno can give you?

My take on it is EFILive has more diagnostic capability than HP. EFILive can do pretty well every single thing the GM Tech II can, plus it logs and of course tunes. EFILive is more limited application wise than HP though. Like EFILive can't tune my GTP but HP tuners can. That said I still chose EFI because, well I don't care about tuning the car and I like the functionality of EFILive. Some say HP tuners is more user friendly but I personally don't know. EFILive is pretty straightforward and simple but that just might be me too. I work with PLC's a lot in industrial settings so I am more familiar with logic than Joe Blow.

And when you buy EFILive's V2 software you can do anything an EFILive equipped shop can. They just will probably have unlimited licenses and possibly the ability to tune Dodge diesels..... All of which you can purchase as well if you really wanted.

Actually I believe you can do more with EFI live. With HPtuners you can not do segment swaps like swaping transmission tables. My understanding was that you had to send the file to HP tunners and they had to make the changes for you. Then they would send it back and you could then adjust the tables.

Efi live IMO.. I am not a tuning guru, but from all I have read on both HP and live, it seems that efi live is the way to go..

I recently bought EFI LIVE and am learning to use it. Do a lot of reading
and ask questions. I don't know hp tuners but EFI LIVE is pretty straight forward.

what are you doing for tuning, are you running forced induction, cam swap, etc? what efi live kit did you get and how much? i seeing them go for around $900. im having future mods done myself and want to save my tunes, so im looking for something that is versatile for my 5.3

I've been tuning my turbo'ed truck with EFILive for years now. I have both software's and much prefer EFILive over HPT. I just like the lay out better and the licensing structure better. There are things like segment swaps that end users can do themselves that you can't with the other software. Not to mention all the Black Box features that it can do as well. I am an EFILive dealer as well, so I can help you with your purchase if you like also.

I have efilive and like said above Read read read. Efilive has a good forum to use and ask questions on. Youll pretty much feel way over your head once you first get started but the more familliar you get and more time you sink into it you will get better.
