detonation and tuning questions
#1
hey guys, couple of questions. I have an 04 silverado with the 5.3. it has 115k miles and seems to run pretty good. no rough idle, good shifts etc. problem i have though is at WOT im getting ALOT of detonation. I changed the plugs and wires, tried switching to higher octane fuel with no help. any ideas? I used to have a dodge with a 318 with the same issue and turned up it was the lower intake gasket, so naturally im thinking maybe i have a blown intake? I have a tune on order from wait4me and would really like to get this issue resolved before it comes hopefully next week. which brings up my next question. Anyone on here have a wait4me tune? I didnt specify anything fancy with the tune except to recalibrate for my 285 tires. for anyone who has the tune, how much more power did you get? ive read its noticeable but am just anxious to know. and should i do a crank relearn? ive read here and there that i should, then i read that i shouldnt have to. If i do its no big deal, cause i have good connections at the dealership. I just want to make sure i do everything right so i dont have to worry about anything. Thanks in advance for any input

About your detonation, what rpm range does it happen at WOT? Are you logging knock with a tuning program or scanner, or hearing it? If you're hearing it, and it's at high rpm, could it be something else, like valve float from a broken spring? It seems like a leak in the intake would be unusual is why I'm asking.

Id say the noise comes at 3 grand and over? doesnt lack power or anything just rattles and is annoying. I dont know what the cause is so I dont open it up often. I have thoroughly cleaned the MAF sensor and have ran sea foam through it a couple of times already, the sea foam made the truck act funny, made it surge when going down a hill with the cruise on and made it idle funny...could have just been some gunk that hadnt passed through yet. Gadgetized....I like your hood...same one I have on my truck!

sorry forgot to answer a question, Im just hearing this noise at this point, I havent logged it with any scanner. I do have a scanner with a live data stream on it but dont know what to watch for. I can turn wrenches in my sleep but am clueless when it comes to the parameters on the scan tool

I dont know if it has it or not. Its a small matco scanner. you think it would should parameters or would it just list when a knock is detected? I will plug it in when i get home and see what comes up. Thanks
