Default Dealer reflash?

I read(I think it was on here) that the dealer can reflash a 5.3 pcm to the 6.0 operating system or something along those lines to pick up some hp and some mpg. Can anyone confirm this or provide me with some facts. I tried searching with no luck.

I've got a 500+ hp LB7 and my dad has a 2002 5.3 suburban that needs a few more ponies and a few more mpg's.

a 6.0 tune is going to be entirely different. It'll run like crap unless they custom tune it, which they won't.
6.0 tune will be reading a larger displacement and over feeding the engine.

Maybe it was just a newer 5.3 OS. Did the newer 5.3's have more power than the 2002's?

I just remember it was a 50+hp gain 2-3 mpg and it cost somewhere around $200.

an update might be available and dealers do reflash but I have never heard of them doing it for a fee and no way you'll gain 50hp from a factry reflash

why not get a custom tune for the same price. No tune will pick up 50 rwhp on a stock 5.3L but it will be around 30 rwhp and 2-3 mpg isn't unheard of in the least bit.

I work for a chevy dealer and there is no performance to be had through a reflash, all the system is used for is for driveability updates, bulletins, after installing a new module, and that pretty much is all it is used for we have no way of fine tuning or altering tunes. Unless you get a performance tune thats the only way of gaining power and increased mileage.

I will find where I first read it and post up the link, but I know I read it somewhere. I own EFI Live and can tune his truck no problem. I was just wondering if it would be easier to just let the dealer do it.

No. The dealer cant "tune" it. The 02' models got as great gas mileage, maybe the best of the recent year models. Just custom tune the 5.3L to pick up mileage. And if you read that the dealer can get you that kind of a gain, it was BS.
