I have a 06 Sierra Denali c/c with the Vortex Max and I have a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty if you get a custom tune will they be able to tell at the dealer if it's a custom tune? Also if I did get the tune would it be best to get a pcm from a bone yard to have it tuned so I can switch it back to stock pcm if I need to?

The dealer can not view the configuration tables, only flash updates with their Tech-II. Having said that, it would be wise to have a spare PCM to switch into when you are taking your CC to the dealer. Incase they do flash it back to stock, yet with an updated OS, you can simply install your tuned PCM and be fine again. This is one of the beauties of having your own tuning software. If they flash you back to stock, all you have to do is compare the new stock file with your previous tune, swap the tuned parameters over to the new update and your are better off. Good luck!

 

Just order your tune and tell the vendor you want to pay the core charge and keep your existing PCM. That's what I did.

i recently inquired with allen at nelson peformance about this same question for an 07 6.0L suburban and according to him the dealer will not be able to detect a tune on the PCM if it is installed in another PCM. havent had the truck at the dealership yet so i couldnt tell you for sure.

 

I work at a dealership....and the only way I could tell my truck had a custome tune was by looking at my idle rpm, since I had Allen at Nelson Perf. dial mine down a bit.

You should keep your OEM PCM for visits to the dealership just incase we have to re-flash it with an update (which happens often). That way...you can go bakc home afterward and re-install the tuned PCM and not have any worries.

 

what if you have a cam???? as soon as they reflash everyones gonna wonder whats going on. its gonna idle and run like a turd.

 

Never gonna be able to hide a cam from a mechanic! You obviously know that they'll kill the warranty when they discover this right?
