Sounds like the IAC Idle Air Control Valve) is not functioning properly, it may just be gummed up with carbon. It's located in the throttle body. You could try cleaning it and giving the throttle body a good cleaning while you're in there. If cleaning it doesn't work, it may need to be replaced.

Thanks all for the help. When I get home this weekend, I'll mess with it and see where I end up.

Update for all of you. I removed, inspected, and cleaned the MAF this weekend. The IAC is part of the MAF. It was'ent too dirty at all. I cleaned the bulb looking thing with the spray electrical cleaner and my binocular lens cleaner rag. I cleaned the inside of the duct from the MAF to the throttle body - once again, it was'ent in too bad shape. I also removed and cleaned the IAC valve and then just for the heck of it, I removed and cleaned the ERG valve. This had lots of carbon on it but still functioned. Waited till this morning when it was cold, started it and absolutly no change from what it has been doing.
The one thing that I never found from dewmanshus post was the little port above the main intake that I need to hose down with a cleaner.
Is there a way to test the IAC? I hate to drop 100.00 or so for a new MAF and find that it was not the problem.
Thanks for the help everybody, if any more ideas out there, I am all ears.

Dan

The IAT (Intake Air Temp sensor) is part of the MAF, IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) is in the Throttle Body...try cleaning the throttle body just for kicks...

Check it out. I have already posted but this guy is having the same problem to. I took my truck into the dealership and they'er also. They told me that they would have to dive into the engine and see what was going on.

For you, I would be after the Intake gaskets. I had the same problem in my 99 with about 65k on it. Start up, then either die or idle like **** when really cold. I'm talking Laramie Wyoming cold.....negatives easy, and before wind chill.........intake gaskets man.......They are cheap and a 20 minute job....

I just noticed your post...since your problem started after the converter swap, I'd be looking towards something related to that. P0300 is a random misfire code...is it possible that a spark plug wire came loose or a plug got cracked? Also, I remember reading about a few guys experiencing some wierd codes after converter swaps...might wanna try a search for "converter codes", or "converter check engine light", or "stall codes", etc...

Yep. Look for an exhaust leak near the O2 sensor. Look at those STFT values. +50% +57%. PCM thinks you're lean, adding in 50%+ extra fuel. Super rich misfire as a result.

Either that, or it's the intake leak as suggested above, causing you to run lean and misfire and causing that positive STFT situation like what's being seen.

I second that opinion, mine was doing the same and it turned out there was an exhaust leak infront of one of my O2 sensors.
