Default Cam tuning questions

Hey everyone,

As some of you may have read in my other thread about building the small block L31.

https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=420932

I just recently acquired a few ZZ4 take out parts for my build (forged crank, forged rods & pistons, valve covers.)Amongst those parts is a GM Performance parts LT4 hot cam that someone must of had in that engine, it looks brand new I can't see any evidence of it ever been ran.

The LT4 cam has a Dur @ .050" of 218/228 and a lift of .492/.492 (@ .050" w/ 1.5 rockers) with a lobe sep of 112

Aside from the mechanical set backs that prevents from using a cam that large on stock vortec heads. I can make the valve guide & seal clearance and use Z28 springs.

However, everything I'm reading says that the LT4 cam is non-computer compatible. I know that alot of guys use this cam in their LT1's and L98's... but most of those are OBDI and basic fuel injection.

I have HPtuners and will be using vortec L31 fuel injection with an 0411/LS based PCM... do you think the LT4 cam will be tunable on my set up?

I've heard that computer compatible cams ramp up different, and using a non-computer roller cam in a modern fuel injection will create problems and tuning nightmares. Input please!

Cheers ~Mykk

People have ran that cam in a L31 before, and as far as I see if you have the ability to tune it (HP Tuners) then you should be good to go. Also you can use 918 or 915 springs and the comp 787 retainers and have more then enough to handle that lift without messing with the heads at all.
