Default Anybody's check engine light come on after playing with idle cable?

I turned my idle from 550 up to 700-800ish

after driving 5 miles the check engine light came on

Why does the motor not like this?

probably bad TPS voltages. when you pull the cable tight to up the idle, it will also change the voltage that the TPS reads. change your idle rpm with hp or efi live. you will need to hook up some scanning software and close the throttle body back to the proper idle voltage that the computer looks for.

is what your talking about for a drive by cable throttle body or electric throttle body with no cable?

Depending on what you did you could do a tps relearn.

unplug the tps and turn the key to run. Wait a few seconds and turn it off. now plug in the tps and do the same thing. once you crank it it should be recalibrated to that point being zero. handy trick!

But it could also be a high idle or high airflow condition if not all changed in the tune and you raised the idle.

tps relearn is a temporary fix until the TPS voltage is dropped back into the normal range of operation.

Because the idle speed does not meet the "desired idle speed" value in the pcm.

I lowered it back down to 600-650 this morning on my way home it turned off. Originally at 550 I will post if it comes back on for some reason.
