Default ABS issues...2000 Silverado 4.3l

Hey guys, been putting this light off for years, now I am going to sell this truck and want it fixed.

I got an ABS light on, the only code I get with my Actron CP9580A is P1381, Misfire Detected - No Communication with Brake Control Module

When I was in Auto college I hooked up a expensive scanner and I would always get could not connect to Brake control module (its been quite a few years, so I think that was what it said)

I have always thought the whole module/pump along the frame just needed replaced but I only seem to find them for $200+ used so never bothered. Anything else I need to look at, or just advice before I drop that much on something? As far as I know the wheel speed sensors are fine, I don't have any codes for it.

I also found this info on the web, doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Kind of, but not completely....

If a loss of communication occurs which causes the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) not to receive rough road information while DTC P0300 is requesting the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL), DTC P1381 will set.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) receives rough road information from the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) on the serial data circuit. The PCM uses the rough road information to enhance the misfire diagnostic by distinguishing crankshaft speed variations caused by driving on rough road surfaces from variations caused by true misfires. The EBCM transmits rough road information based on inputs from the wheel speed sensors.

The Actron description is probably not correct.

Most likely the EBCM needs to be replaced.

You will need a better scan tool that is capable of talking to the ABS module to diagnose it. Most generic code readers won't do it.

Thanks, I didn't figure a cheap Actron would be able to pick it up. But since it did read a code I threw it out there. Looks like the EBCM is a pretty big problem in early Silverados, so I think I will just take my chance and buy one, still be cheaper that going to a dealer and just getting a diagnoses.
