Default About to start tuning my VE, questions...

I want to use the method posted by Yelo in the Tuning 101. Just want to check and see if the method he suggests works well and see if anyone has any other suggestions. Once my VE is tuned, I won't have to retune it unless I add some mods right? Like a CAI or further exhaust system mods? Then I will need to retune the VE again right? Sorry for all the newbie questions...

After tuning my VE I want to work on my spark tables for running 87 octane first, then after that is done, start buying 93 octane and tune the spark tables for 93. This way I can swap tunes when I want, depending on the price of 93 in my area. However I don't see the part for tuning PE. Is there a good PE tuning guide out there? Any suggestions to Yelo's Spark tuning method? Looks good to me, except I don't understand how to desensitize the knock sensors (safely).

Or would I be better off waiting till I get a WB O2 kit and do all my tuning then? WB O2 has nothing to do with VE tuning anyway right? Where are the guides a begginer can understand for tuning with a WB O2? Note I haven't had time to look through all the HPTuners demos and help files, stickies etc so if there is something on that site that I must see someone please post the link so I can read it!

Thanks, for all the help! Don't you just love the Internet?

You have the cash for a wideband? Get it. Tuning with a wideband is 10,000 times easier. All your questions can be answered w/o a wideband, but if you can get one...get one. Some say it's not necessary, but man it's so easy to tune with one.

Small bolts on won't effect the VE much if anything to be noticed. If you change the airflow characteristics, retuning could be beneficial to you.

Spark tuning is open for discussion.

I am a little concerned about the VE because the 2002 Sierra has the same engine, rated for less horsepower, yet same VE table as my 2004 model rated for more horsepower. So I think the factory VE is not that good. Just generic if you will.

Spark tuning doesn't look that hard. What about PE tuning... Do you have a link to some documents on how to tune VE, Spark, PE etc with WB O2? I can get one, but it will be a few weeks. I don't see what it will hurt to tune a little without it first, I am not going to go crazy with the tuning or anything until after I get a WBO2.

Links to some tuning guides (for beginners) with HPTuners and WB O2 would be nice!

take a read on this link. I think that best way to start out is to read various write ups on how to tune. also go to hptuners it might help you, I dont know why but most of my tunning questions get answered here or on LS1tech. Hope that it helps.

I agree w/ DEW you can tune the VE w/ LTFT's, but it is much easier and more precise w/ the wideband. Then you can tune your MAF and just dial in PE. I say go ahead and tune the VE w/ LTFT to get a feel for it and do it again when you get the wideband. For PE you pick a multiplier from stoich to get your desired PE. W/o a wideband you can watch your stock o2's to make sure you are going rich, but wideband is way more accurate. Hptuners forum has a pretty good sticky on VE tuning in OLSD. The more you play with HPTuners the more you will learn.
