Default '99 5.7L crank position sensor problem...

truck get's towed to our shop and dropped off with a no-start problem, proceed with checking the vehicle over, narrow it down to the crank position sensor so we order up a replacement...doesn't fit, the diameter of the replacement is about 1/5" larger than the one that i took out and obviously will not fit in the fitting on the timing cover, checked the other parts stores and theirs all measured the same, as did the chevy dealer...part numbers are the same for the 305 as well, so my question is if anyone else has come across this with any re-manufactured engines or replacement timing covers before? nowhere i've found shows any options for a different sized crank position sensor...the replacements i was able to get had the same exact plug and bracket as the original as well, the customer doesn't want to spend the money on a replacement timing cover at this point....any ideas?

it's production date it 09/98, model year 99 K1500 5.7L, Z71...thanks!

Dumb asses are giving you sensors for a LS engine. Order it for a 96 K1500 with a 350 and it will fit. Their books are wrong ran into this before.

haha, at 1999 there was a mix between teh c/k OBS trucks and the new body style trucks. honestly, in the cataloging system its c1500 or k1500 for OBS and silverado 1500+ for new body style... I get calls from people all the time saying its a silverado with a 5.7 at 1999 or even 2000. the BWD part number for the sensor you need is CSS123, the Delphi part is SS10125 and got the numbers from advance.

I have run into this several times lately and it wasn't the wrong part I was giving my customers. These crank sensors are a two piece design and the sleeve/cap on the end can get stuck in the timing cover. Remove it from the timing cover and the new one slides right in.

yeah i ran it as a K1500 and that delphi part is the same one they sent me...i'll take a closer look at it tomorrow but i'm pretty certain there wasn't anything left in there, just the empty brass fitting it slides into...if i can remember i'll try and get some pics of the one that came out

thanks!

No the customer decided he doesn't want it to be worked on now so he had it towed away. I'll post an update if it comes back and I learn anything.
