Default 6 speed nnbs trucks gear indicator question

Anyone know what tells the gear indicator what gear the 6 speed trucks are in when in manual mode? I want to pull that little screen out of a 6 speed cluster and use it on a project.

The TCM talks on the CAN high speed data bus to the ECM. The ECM then relays the PRNDL information over the databus to the instrument cluster When you put it in manual mode it display's M then when you start tap shifting and the numbers change all of that information is broadcast on the high speed data bus. The instrument cluster then gathers and hears this information off of the bus and displays accordingly.

Just curious you think you can post of a wire diagram of the harness that goes into our factory gauge cluster?
