4.3L fine tuning... tuning.

iv been playing around with hpt on my 2002 4.3 5spd for quite a while now. i feel like i have done a lot of the basics but i still feel like there is some fine tweaking id like to do.
truck mods:
K&N panel filter with drilled air box
removed throttle defuser on blade
flow master 50 exiting before rear tire
3pc underdrive pulleys
electric fans
some things iv noticed is once in a while my truck doesnt just slide into gear. im confident its not a mechanical issue within the trans. iv noticed with my motorcycle the richer the idle mixture is the easier it shift (rpms dropped quicker). where is a leaner idle, the rpms would not drop as quick and shifting feels pretty notchy. will the truck mimic this? and what parameters should i look at changing?
iv also never messed with the dwell area of timing or the transient area of fueling. would it even be noticiable in a lightly modded vehicle?
