Default 08 5.3 tuning for mileage

My girlfriend has a 08 1500 CC 2wd that she purchased new that is bone stock, with 48k miles. this thing only gets 15 mpg hand calculated driving 70 mph in flat areas (no hills around here) I've talked to others with the same truck are getting 19-21. so what should I do? get a tune? air filter? muffler? thanks!

Seeing your in Midland i know stays pretty windy out there and it really affects mpg's..
When i was working in Fort Suckton last year i would only get 13-14mpg on the trip there and back..

But like mentioned already start with a tune

Get a K&N drop in filter and a good tune and you'll be set. I don't care what anyone says the K&N works wonders.

best bang for your buck would be a tune. im getting better gas mileage than that with 4.10s, 22in rims, and a cam. Hit up a sponsor or someone local with efi live or HPT

Little gestures like that could yield amazing results (not concerning the truck)

70 is a bit to fast to stay in 4cyl mode. mine would get better gas mileage at 60-65 with dod turned on. A good street tune should help also.
