Anyone seen this before?
it’s been happening for a while, one bar at a time. I don’t know if the “bulbs” are burning out or solder is cracking or what.
any fixes?
I took the cluster apart once but It looked like I needed to pull the needles off to go deeper and any time I’ve ever done that the gauges never work right afterwards. So I just put it back together.
called a couple speedo repair places and they either wouldn’t touch it or wanted more than what the cluster is worth, to fix it.
It is just the LCD screen going out which is relatively common. My 01 Denali cluster has one line that is starting to go.
The job to repair that is kind of a bitch so I am not surprised nobody wants to touch it. You could just get a new cluster but you will lose your miles.
I was going to reply that maybe the solder needs to be re-flowed, but wasn't sure if it was different on the Cadillac. It sounds like it is.
I had to reflow the solder on my 99 a while ago, but on those, the numbers start to dim and eventually go out. Reflow fixed it.
Fast forward to last year. I upgraded to a HD cluster to gain transmission temperature guage. I found a local guy in FBMP that reprogrammed the HD cluster to my mileage. I don't know how that's done though.
I have a stock 02 Tahoe cluster and a 02 Escalade cluster. Besides the added trans temp gauge on the Escalade, the boards are the same. My Tahoe cluster has 2 dead lines running thru the odometer number that I still need to repair. There's 3 resistors on the back of those vfd displays that very often have cracked solder joints. Probably from sitting in that little pocket of heat under the display for 20+ years. Problem is that you can barely get to em unless you open the cluster, pull the board off the back, and desolder all the pins to remove the display. But you're not ready for all that if you're not comfortable with pulling needles. I was at that stage once
