this time of year, we get a lot of rodent issues. when i was a service writer, i would get at least one vehicle a week in the colder (california cold below 60) months. be glad you did not have a dead rat in the car and have to find it the hard way. seen them in fan shrouds, blower motor boxes, engine covers, etc.
just look at it as an excuse to get an 1100FPS pellet gun with a night scope. just add beer!

Ever try the "Bucket of Death"?????
Fill a five gallon pail with about 6" of water, run a board up one side for them to crawl up onto the bucket, sprinkle bird seed with sunflower seeds in it over the top of the water.
The little **** heads jump in and drown!! It really works!
PS the seed bait has to be semi fresh to keep them jumping in

We see rodent damage here at work all of the time, it just happened to me a few weeks ago, the day after my trans blew and I left the hood open for a few minutes. Came walking up to my truck to find a squirrell on top of my engine, damn bastard ate through the #2 injector wiring harness, leaving me very little wire left to repair
