why are parts store workers idiots

At most places all you do is type in the info and the parts come up on the screen, you go get the matching part number in the back. Sounds simple enough. If I go in and ask specifically for a serpentine drive belt for an 04 chevy silverado with a 4.8L and automatic transmission with a 105amp alt, whats the problem. I even told him before the search, not the a/c belt, but the main serp drive belt. Hell, I even brought the part number from my last belt, but he still had to look it up on the computer.

Probably so. The Advance auto stores by my house in Tenn and New York(when I lived there) required their workers to know about vehicles. They wouldnt hire them without testing their knowledge first. It was nice, you go in and talk to someone that actually knows what they are doing. Its few and far between now.

its because alot of those types of parts are mixed in with other things which cause a prompt to come up and ask: 4wheel/all wheel drive? Yes, No, Don't know.
i know its a stupid question, and whenever it happens to me, i usually just hit Dont know, so it displays all options, but if the guy is new or something, hes just following the computer prompts. Just cut them a little slack sometimes, because you can bet that that worker is new if they ask a question like that for something simple

Oh, and it's definitely not just new guys that ask that. It's the same guy that I've seen for at least a year at the AutoZone by my house.

**** most of the times when I go to one of them with a part they just look at me and say Whats that? I tell them and they argue that it is something else lol and yes that has happened. But ya there are simple things they should know rather then saying well the pc does not show it or ask stupid questions about.

I had this happen to me the other day...went to get a serpt. belt and told the guy I had the 145 amp alternator and he said no they didnt come in that year and I was mistaken...lol I just laughed and said please just give me the other belt...same when u call the dealer and they ask for the vin...I wanted to get 2wd ubolts and obviously the vin tells him that my truck is 4wd and hes like it wont work and this that and the other thing...I do understand he was trying to help but when u try to explain what your trying to do they tell you it wont work...again thats when I just ask them please to order it for me!...
