With the exception of some machine shop work on the engine blocks, I have done my own work since the early sixties, when I was a mechanic at a local Chevrolet dealership.
I also have built TH350s, TH400s, and 700R4 but I don't use them or particularly like them, although I have a '47 Olds project that will be an automatic and a '77 Monza Spyder that may have a TH350 (until the 408 crunches it).
I also don't care for body work, preferring to defer it (when I can) to a professional.
I haven't done any tuning yet to the LSx vehicles, but used Calmap with an Accel piggyback unit on my C4 in the '80s.
It's been an ever-increasing educational experience so far.

nice thread btw.
I have the majority of the tools, I'm more a fabricator, but I can do most stuff except rebuilding transmissions and paint/body. building the dune buggy taught me a lot lol, especially spring rates/suspension setups. as for building motors, i've done a Gen I, now i'm plannin on a Gen III truck motor for the dune buggy. I try not to act like I know everything when I dont know something, so I'm not afraid to ask questions.
