what compressor for my garage at home?

im a "retired" tech at the age of 25. i got out of the auto industry but still have all my tools. recently bought a house, and refuse to work without air after being spoiled in a nice shop for so long.
i was gonna go to sears, but not sure what size compressor i need. i figured i could get something pretty decent for about $300.
i have all the regular professional air tools, leakdown and compression tester etc. i want something thats not gonna screw me if im working for the entire day in the garage.
thanks in advance for the help.

$350 will get you a roll around compressor that will run all ******* day long while you work..
or a nice pancake style compressor.. you could run a whole nailgun on .
break the bank and get a 5 hp 50gal and be done with it

That is what I have and no complaits about it, ran a die sander, I think that is what it is called. And I ran it for a hour and never had to stop. The tools and air line is not worth a chit.

i like the $399 specials you see often. the "5hp", 60gal tank, single stage units. seems like you get quite a bit for the money.
the oilless are very loud.
something like this but for under $400 >> http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...275&lpage=none

Check out craigslist in your area. Find something with a 5 hp compressor and a 60 to 80 gallon compressor.
We got lucky and traded a laptop for one. Pretty nice unit with very low hours on it.

thanks guys. i was lookin at the 33 gallon, wasnt sure if that would cut it. at times i will be all out with the air tools disassembling everything in sight. when i do, i dont want to have to wait for the tank to fill up again. ill check into a 50-60. it sucks, but i know its true to just quit being a bitch and buy a good one.
the holidays suck, i went out to buy christmas presents and came back with a new computer for myself. i think im retarded or something. i still havent bought **** for anyone.
