TV gurus, help me out a little bit.

Meh, Pioneer makes some awesome tvs, but go find me a 50" Pioneer plasma for even double of what a Panasonic costs. Most people who just want "A nice tv" don't feel like dropping $2000 for a Pioneer or $3000 on an ELITE. You can get a 50" panasonic 1080p plasma for $1100 or a 720p for $800 if you look around.
Dude sorry, but your information couldn't be more off. Plasmas are cheaper because they have been around for several years longer. As the technology ages, companies are able to produce it for cheaper. LCDs have only during the past few years began to target the 42" and larger crown. Over the past 1-2 years if you watch trends, the LCDs have began to be cheaper and cheaper.
With regards to your Plasma issues you mentioned.
"I heard that GM cars don't have air bags or seat belts. I wouldn't get one."
My point being is that all your points are things of the past. There were issues at one point in time, but now all those are a thing of the past.

-Plasmas are cheaper because they are older technology but not worse technology
Nah man, it's all a marketing gig. Like I said in my post earlier, the human eye can't tell the difference between the two on a 42" tv if you're sitting 8 feet or further away.

There's a lot of misinformation in here. A lot of people get carried away by looking at silly things like Contrast ratio or 720p/1080

ur ignorance shows when u say u cant tell a diff in 1080 and 720, when i sold tv's i could be 20 feet back and see the pixels on a 720 but the 1080s u cant see the individual pixels. :nunchuk1:plasmas r cheap because they r the worst technology plain and simple. lcd's have been around much longer, just because they werent being produced in the larger sizes doesnt mean its an OLDER technology...

Taken from Cnet:
http://reviews.cnet.com/720p-vs-1080p-hdtv/
"In our tests, we put 720p (or 768p) sets next to 1080p sets, then feed them both the same source material, whether it's 1080i or 1080p, from the highest-quality Blu-ray player. We typically watch both sets for a while, with eyes darting back and forth between the two, looking for differences in the most-detailed sections, such as hair, textures of fabric, and grassy plains. Bottom line: It's almost always very difficult to see any difference--especially from farther than 8 feet away on a 50-inch TV. "
As far as the plasma life:
"Plasma life span: The life span of plasma TVs is another area that's improved dramatically with the last few generations of the technology. Partly in response to claims made by LCD TV makers, plasma manufacturers now claim their panels last an extremely long time. Most plasma makers today claim a life span of 60,000 hours before the panel fades to half brightness. That's more than 20 years if the TV is on for 8 hours per day."

Plasmas have been around longer than lcd tvs have:
"Plasma TVs have been out on the market for quite a while. They have their reputation, and a good one at that. But LCD TVs are now hot in the public’s mind. It could be because they're relatively new, or maybe because of good reviews and effective advertising. Whatever the reason, the fact they have grown hot in the public's consciousness will help motivate manufacturers to lower prices to make them more competitive with plasma TVs."
