Default Product Review: GM Header studs...

These things can suck it...

I think they're a great idea, but they really made installing my headers a pain in the ***...I put the studs in the heads and then we dropped the motor in. We had to remove all of the studs on the passenger side to get the header back in place...So basically from the aspect, I should have just used bolts...Driver side wasn't as bad, but still had to remove a couple studs for the header to slide back in place.

If I had it to do over again, I would have just got some locking bolts and been done with it.

What headers are you using? Everyone else who has used them ahsnt had any compaints. Ive got a set sitting on the shelf that I was going to use when I finally get around to putting my headers on.

I have pacesetter. The studs just stick out too far to get the header to slide back up in there

And if I was a betting man, and I am, I would bet most people have put these in with the headers already in place. I'm pretty sure when I go to remove the headers for new ones, the studs will have to come out again to complete the task

I had the same issue with ARP header studs and my pacesetters. Driver side went in perfect, but the passenger side is damn near impossible.

Yeah, I think you'll have issues with any studs on the passenger side. I they're a great idea, but not great for our trucks.

I will say that I like the fact that I don't THINK I have to worry about the nut backing off one of the studs though causing an exhaust leak

The studs work great, I'd highly recommend them. You don't put all of them in initially, just put 1 or 2 in the head. I usually put it in the middle hold and maybe the front. This makes it much easier to get the header onto the head and then you can thread in the rest. Regarding the fit, I never had an issue with Dynatechs or ARH, but when I had Pacesetters I was still using the factory bolts, so I can't comment there. Anything that reduces the chance of another bolt breaking off in my head is a good thing imo.

We tried similar techniques, it just wasn't happening. We had to pull the header into place and then start the studs, just like using bolts. It was really a pain...

I think to remove my headers, I will have to pull the studs again. I'm 100% convinced that these aren't going to break at that time. They don't look to be made of real good quality material like an ARP or something...Just my opinion of course!

I won't recommend these to anyone

so what is the benefit of studs over bolts? Do studs hold better or is this all about convenience
