I've been there too my friend, not once, but twice. I swear my eyes are magnets. If you have ever had to get something DUG out of your eye, you will remember the safety glasses. First off ... until they actually get the particles out, it's itching and burning like a SOB. Once you get to the doctor, he drops some numbing drops in your eye and you think it's gone. THEN the fun starts. He gets this little miniature dremel looking thing out and grinds on your eye with a very fine diamond polishing wheel. The whole time you must stare into the light and not move a muscle keeping your eye WIDE open or he could slip and really mess up your eye. Once all that's done and the drops wear off, your eye begins to water like you left the faucet on. For the next 3 days you must put an equivelant of Neosporin for eyes IN your eye, under each eye lid every 4 hours. After the 3 days, for the following week and a half, you must do this every 6 hours. Up until 3 weeks you are to avoid ALL and ANY dust of any kind that could possibly get in your eye.

THAT will also make you a believer in eye protection.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you come out OK. Let us know if theres anything you need.

Looks like you were very fortunate to not loose an eye. Someone was watching out for.

Please elaborate on that. You can send me a PM if you rather. I'm collecting a couple of 30 gallon drums for fuel to carry with me on a camping trip and would like to know if this is something that would pertain to my possible mishap.

Sorry to hijack. On that note, please PM me.

Damn man, glad you faired well.

I had a similar experience with a 4 wheeler when i was 12. I was going around 45mph with no helmet on and hit a railroad tie that was out in the field where i was riding. After flipping it 3 times and a superfun ambulance ride to the ER, I got 22 staples in the back of my head. The laceration was about 10" long. You can still see it today even after a scar reduction surgery. In essence, lessons learned that saftey equipment is not there to make you look like a tool.

OUCH! Live and learn

They took you by ambulance then life flight? How serious did it look initially? Were they concerned about head trauma and bleeding?

I was gonna say something like "way to go stoopid" but Ive done dumb stuff like that way more than I care to admit. My second wife worked for an eye surgeon and they delt mostly with trauma. Also I work in a plant where we're we are required to wear eye protection, and still when I get home what do I do, yep, pull the damn glasses off. I know second hand how easy it is to loose vision, and even lost a little bit temporarly from ot using the proper eye protection, and yet I still take it for granted. My wife used to stay on my *** especially after holidays when she had to explain to some kids mom why even thought hes only 8 he cant have bottle rocket wars, and he has the rest of his life to remember why he should have at least had saftey goggles on when he did that. Her brother and I used ot have bottle rocket wars and her knowing how stubborn we both are she just made sure we both had eye protection on. Sorry for the rant, glad you missed and it looks like youll heal up just fine

BTW I feel you on the age thing I look like Im about 20, and have two kids 8 and 5 (fixing to be 6) But the grey hair is just starting to show itself (the rest is starting to retire though )

I had a cb antenna go through the pour duct and rip through muscles that are attached to the eye. My eye(right) watered the whole time I read this. Ugh gawd it was painful. Those muscles healing and aching sucked! My eye is still watering right now!

Glad to "see" your okay!!! It's a common thing, most safety rules (especially in the military) are written in blood.
I know this smiley is for something else...but it's kinda of funny for this thread!!
