Default Not winding through the upper RPMs

I dont know what the deal is but my chevy 350 runs out of breath at 5500. I have the mods in my sig. I have only gotten it up to 6000rpm once and that was in first gear...in second it doesnt feel like it will pull to 6000 but will chirp third at around 5500rpm. What could be the problem? Should i just swap in some 4.10s and wind it up.
