Default New TOY.......

Hey guys, thought I would share a couple pics of the new toy I bought myself for christmas. It is kinda the opposite of vehicles you see around here(this thing is SLOW) but at least it is a truck.

Its a 1980 4WD Toyota longbed pickup AKA "Stan". My buddy found him in a scrap metal yard, someone had dropped him off for wieght. So we trailered him back to the house and found out there was not power to the inside of the cab. Once I traced the wires out and got that taken care of we put some wheels and tires on, starter, and carb and he fired right up! So here is what he looked like when I brought him home and put some wheels and tires on.....

Things I have done since bought:

New motor mount bolts, new exhaust and intake manifold gaskets, new plugs and wires, new coil, carb, starter, red top optima, changed all fluids(front diff, rear diff, engine, tranny, transfer case), welded rear differential, new wheels and used tires from a friend, different rear bumper.......Thats all I can think of now.

Here is what he looks like now......

And here are some terrible flex pics (Previous owner put add-a-leafs front and rear=bad ride and no flex)

Let me know what you think about him or if you have any questions I would be happy to answer. Thanks.

Thomas

I think they only had those on 79 and 80 models. They look better than the square IMHO.

I have another set of doors to put on it that actually have windows (I would like to keep the doors in case of roll over and limbs slapping me in the face on the trail lol)

I cant decide if I want to pull the bed off and do some tube on the back or bob the bed. I like the idea of bobbing it because it keeps the full body rig look but I wouldnt have to worry about trimming the bed for the suspension uptravel once I get the suspension squared away.........we shall see.

It is definately a project, but I am excited I got it running......and I got into the hobby as cheaply as I could have I think.

Wow, this brings back memories!
I had the same truck except in orange, was my first truck too. I beat the snot out of the thing and couldn't kill it until I hit a concrete bridge and bent the frame badly. Engine still ran and I actually drove the thing all the way home sideways with radiator fluid puking all over. These lil things are tough!
Have fun!

Yeah these trucks are tough thats for sure. The first time out it made it up a creek bed it shouldnt have made it up slipping clutch and all just hammerin away at it. Come this summer it should be quite a nice little trail rig for what we do around here. I just need some time and money.......kinda sucks bein a college student.
