If I'm going to buy a knife that I want to have for a long time, then my budget will allow anything. Not saying my pockets are really deep, I just want a quality piece of hardware. I want a knife that I can rely on in a situation where that's all I've got. Non-serrated and made of something that'll hold an edge for a while.
I'm trying
It's expensive though.

So this is something youll be carrying everyday? Do you want it to be light and thin or are you ok with a larger knife? Give me some more specifics as to what you're looking for and a price range. There are A LOT of really nice knives out there, just depends on what you're looking for and how much you're wanting to spend. Are you wanting something more along the lines of a gentlemans knife or something more "tactical" looking?

Meh those knives aren't that great. More of a knife you'd hang on the wall that looks cool. Are you wanting a fixed blade or a folder?
If you're looking for a decent sized fixed blade to keep in the truck, look up a company named ESEE. Their knives and warranty are practically unbeatable for the money. Their warranty is NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
For folders, can't go wrong with Kershaw, Benchmade, and Spyderco. They all use high end steel in their knives. If you're looking for something higher quality, and don't mind dropping the $$$, look at Chris Reeve's Sebenza (~$400), or at a Strider ($500+)

Definitely a fixed blade. Something of a survival knife. I mean if you're fighting off zombies and you've got no more shells for your shotgun and the sidearm is empty too, the knife better save your ***. That kind of knife.
