Had a friend with an F250....2006 I think. Had the 6.0l Powerstroke. Our WHOLE group of friends used to make fun of his truck because almost on the dot every 6 months it wouldn't start for him. Either fuel pressure/injector/battery issues. He had intake, exhaust and a tune. Not a bubba's buddy tune and actual tuner that was local. It was NOT the tune. Anyways he always had some sort of issues. Long crank issues on occasion.....especially when the weather got cold. Steer clear of the Ford diesels. The old 7.3ls were different (I think international designed that engine.)

My choice for 3/4ton diesel trucks.....

#1 Duramax
#2 Cummings

My opinion is there are only two choices.

The 7.3, 6.0, and 6.4 were International.

International designed the 6.0/6.4 too. the new 6.7 is the first in house Diesel they have used in a long time... i think they were scarred by past issues.

Their contract with international ended, and they didn't renew for obvious reasons.

before i bought my duramax i did ALOT of research , went into diesel truck forums, and read alot.... i was dead set on a powerstroke, until i read their forums... even the cummins... so , i ended with my 07 classic LBZ duramax and i myself couldnt be happier... only issue that i had at 99.4k miles (right before warranty went out!!) was EGR system, one tranny line, and 1 glow plug but they ended up replacing all glow plugs since it was part of their procedure.... never skipped a beat, but the CEL came on and i just took it in to get it checked out... What i read bad about duramax was the injectors, but most where because of bad preventative maint, they wouldnt change the fuel filter as often as needed. i read that changing the the filter every 7k is a good way to keep your injector life span longer, so thats exactly what i do, i change engine oill every 3k and fuel filter every 6-7k.... I now have 120k on mine and still runs like new with zero issues, My mods are stock exhaust piping with a welded in magnaflow and catless, (sounds almost like stock, but the turbo whistle is a whole lot more noticable! which i enjoy hearing, lol), have a bullydog "tow tune" which is the lowest set on a bullydog like 70hp and woke up the truck a whole lot, i have 18"wheels on 285's, and i can manage 20-21mpg on the highway, around town i get around 18mpg..... I pull a 31ft travel trailer with zero issues, i hardly notice the load at all, of course mpg drop to about 11-12mpg when pulling the trailer.

I myself couldnt be happier with the duramax... thats my .02
