As most of you know i work at a performance/dyno shop and do regular vehicle maintanence...i make $10 a hour and i get to work on some the coolest cars..this week ive worked on 2 06 zo6's and a magnacharged 06 gt.. but my dad owns an oilfield service and hes the only guy running the business that my grandma owns..hes been wantin me to go to work for him for quite a while ..and id make alot more money which i need more so i can buy a house and all that stuff..
what would you do

 

Make more money. I would never be a mechanic because I think it starts to take the fun out of it as a hobby. More money = more toys and you don't have to deal with other people's mechanical problems...

 

i say its all about what you would enjoy doing the most, some people can live with going to a job that they hate, but they make tons of money doing it. i cant which is why im still working for my dad at $9 an hour in construction, but gettin a 2nd job for mod money(off topic)

if you can either work at a job you dislike, or think you will like this job i say go for it

 

oh i would like the oilfield job..the thing my dad would have me doing is scrapping paraffin and we gotta truck that has a brush lookin thing that you do not want up your *** and its goes down the well and scrapes the paraffin out and as it comes out i burn it and its big *** fire..on an oil well haha..shoots fire out of the flow line about a good 30-40 feet

I've worked in the oilfield that past two summers for my Dad. It can be dangerous but you just have to be smart and not dick around. The pay is pretty good and you can really get alot of overtime if you want. You have the rest of your life to make $10 an hour. Go make some more...

Be straight with him. Tell him that it is about the money. You have a house payment, bills, etc. and $10 an hour just isn't cutting it. Tell him it isn't anything personal and that you love your job but it is just something you have to do. He is going to do one of three things:

1.) Offer you a raise so you will stay.
2.) Tell you that he understands and wishes you luck.
3.) Get mad because he thinks you are putting him in a bind.

As far as I have seen, he seems like he should understand where you are coming from.

 

I'd make the change, I bet it's awesome messing with those sweet cars though! I have oil wells all on my property and around me in my "section", they work 24/7 with those things!

 

I'd rather be an oil tycoon. Not sure about where you are but around here it's a babe magnet

Fun is fun but work is work. Take the job that pays the most and has the best future for you.
