Default I just wanted to fix my mower

So I have an old Murry riding mower, 14.5 hp Briggs on it. Its been sitting unmoved for about 6 years. I need it to mow some old field so I can have a bonfire around a big pile of brush. So anyway, I drag it out of the garage with the 4wheeler, all tires flat and the front two badly dry rotted. So after a can of FIX-A-FLAT and a tire tube for the front right, it was movable. Battery was too old to take a charge, so I had to jump it...d@mn jumper cables would not make a good connection so I hunted for cables for an hour. Had the truck pulled right up to the front of the mower, would only start with starting fluid and carb cleaner. I had put new gas in it, but it wasnt getting it. Removed the fuel line, was the consistancy of wet , so NO gas to the carb. After buying new fuel line and filter, still no go. No gas at all. So I spray carb cleaner all in the carb, let it set, then it was acting like it was hydro-lock, wouldn't hardly turn over. So I take the spark plug out, tried turning it over, finally turned over, blew the carb cleaner all over the front of my truck...I should of known that, I was stupid. So I put my hand in front of the spark plug hole, and turn it over. It blows more fluid on my hand, and all in the spark plug cap. AND OF COURSE, it makes connection and shocks the **** out of me, but I've had that before, so surpise by the shock, but the flames leaping off my hand and the front of the mower DID surprise me! So I rub my hand out in the grass, and try to blow the fire out on the mower, a good few breaths just blows it over to the front of the truck, catches it on fire....THANK YOU!! So i just grab the hose and water it out. So I put the plug back in and try to start it, STILL NO FUEL, so I just barely spray a little carb cleaner to start it, POW, blows the spark plug out and strips the threads.... It sucked, and I took the carb apart and still cant get the fuel to go thru.

Wouldnt it be easier to set the grass on fire and not your hand?

Yeah, its cool. Mainly burned on the chrome bumper, so no harm. Just wipe the soot off

Your story was very entertaining! I'm still laughing........ Thanks for sharing your troubles with us. Heli-coil kits for spark plugs are available. That may be your best bet.
