Default how hard to put an older truck into 12's?

Ive been debating on whether or not i should get a 01-02 truck or a 85-87 model short bed chevy pickup. My question is which one do you all think would be the cheapest route into getting it into the 12s. if i get an 01-02 then it will be an ext cab. dont want a rcsb unless its an older truck. Another question i had was how hard would it be to do a ls1 or lq9 swap and 4L60E trans into an older truck? thanks fellas

Don't see why it would need to be custom. Just use the harness that goes to the LSX and take out the harness to the OBS. As far as mounts, if they don't line up you just make an adapter plate.

A member on here used a gauge cluster from a 90-91 suburban that had the electric speedometer from the factory.....so that should be a easy set-up there!
