I crunched the numbers and with my wife and I commuting 12 miles one way to where she works and I have to drive the same route to get to my work. between the 2 of us, the best I figure is we make the 24 mile round trip trek ~900 times a year (she's a realtor). That 21,600 miles a year on a commute that isn't necessary cause there is nothing holding me in this town. at 16mpg on average and $4/gal for gas that is $450 a month JUST IN GAS for a 12 mile commute. To hell with it. Time to fix the house up!

Ah the 12 mile commute. I commute 50 miles each way. There are some PA guys here that commute 100 miles each way. Those fuggers are out of jobs.
It's hard to believe that each of you commute only 12 miles each (24 one way X 2=48 miles a day) and it equates to 450 a month. That's what? About 950 to 1000 miles a month? 1000 miles divided by 16mpg is 63 gallons times $4/gal is 250 bucks.
So it's safe to assume the two of you NON-commute about the same. LMAO Sorry, just struck me as alot of money for such a low commute. Jesus, I wished I lived 12 miles from work. (not really, but it would be nice to get up just that much later)

Welcome to the crowd. Me and the wife spend over $1000 per month on gas. She has a Tahoe and we tried to get rid of it last year. Bought her a Cadillac CTS and was asking $2500 under what I owed on the Tahoe which was also $2500 under KBB private party value. After 2 months of $300 in advertising and 2 phone calls I had to sell the CTS and commit to keeping the Tahoe forever.
It is nice to have when you need the room, just not as a DD anymore.

For me, going to the farm and back once or twice a day, and doing the 3.5 hour drive to see The Girl's family almost every weekend or two, and I'm spending 1000 to 1200 a month on gas. I did 1000 kilometers one weekend trying to get her stuff back from her welfare **** ex. Maybe headers would help me....
