Lifes not fair, PERIOD! We've been told that since we were little and its the truth.
Im not depending on my company to provide for my retireement, Im taking care of that myself. Ill be buying real estate, a tangeable good that I can sell if need be and no one has control over but me.
Any person with a couple brain cells could see that what the UAW had was too good to be true, and well everyone knows the saying about things that are too good to be true

I work for a large GM dealer, I'm glad GM finally filed Bankruptcy I however am not happy about the Gov. bailout. On one hand the bankruptcy is actually a good thing, the uncertainty of GM has been scaring consumers from purchasing GM products. Some dealers will be closing, the one I work for will not, thats good for me as it will increase our business in the service dept. It is however a inconvenience for some customers who will have to drive farther to have there vehicle serviced.
What killed GM besides UAW was the vehicles they built in the 80's and 90's. Most of them were just plain crap both quality wise and curb appeal. GM was way to slow to react to the import market and build quality vehicles people wanted to own that were stylish and dependable... The more recent GM vehicles are much better from a quality standpoint but still lacking in the most part on attractive styling. GM got to big to listen to there consumers so the consumer went elsewhere. Consumers want attractive fuel efficient vehicles and for the most part are not consumed with performance, there are those of us out there that love power and GM forgot about us to by not producing what we wanted ie... a low cost stylish rear wheel drive V8 vehicle so those of on this forum made due with the best they had to offer and bought and modded trucks. From 2002 to 2008 with the exception of the GTO, Trucks were the only way to get a V8 and RWD. Simply put GM is and has been way out of touch with what made it the American icon it was and they still don't realize it IMO.

Oil & gas fields, union right? I forgot when I mentioned how many jobs are created by an auto worker. That figure, IIRC, is higher than any other job( the ratio I mean). I forgot where I heard or read at. And I forgot, but as u pointed out, when gas/oil goes up, it affects all in a way. Creates less demand for trucks, more for fuel efficiency (cars), takes $ from groceries to put gas in vehicle, etc.

Nope.. no unions...High gas prices **** people off BUUT when oil and gas make money everyone makes money...take a year ago or so when the prices where really high at the pump....how was the unemployment office then? How was the economy then?
Point being rather we like it or not we want the oil and gas entities to flurish.

The problem is that america used to be a huge exporter of american made goods. In the 70's and 80's we started importing more and more goods from other countries and it just snowballed fron there. America produces very little now days and almost all of our imports are from China and Japan. Not only is this bad for the auto industry but but for our economy and our future as a world leader. By accepting this bailout money now the government is going to dictate what GM manufactures. Buy your camaro's and vettes now because there will be no more performance type cars as the government already says they only want smaller fuel efficient clean burning cars. Sad, sad...............sad.

Obama also has stated that as far as trucks are concerned, only the business'es should be able to readily recieve them. He will try to make it harder and harder for the average joe like you and I to buy a truck. Fuel surcharges and taxes on trucks are suppose to be going way up in the near future. Supposivly
