GM bankrupt close 12 plants / obama 30 billion bail out for gm

For those counting, that's 2 butts. I agree no one w/ help you. A lot of bashing going on for a company whose trucks y'all drive. I agree, yes GM might not be runnin it smoothly. But not that it needs to go.
As far as having a GMC branded truck & a Chevy, well if $ is being spent on the other brand to advertise, well, I don't think that would make sense at this time. Would it be better to use 1 brand of GM truck & just change the brand so they still appear as 2 different looks as they do now? I don't think that makes a diff either.
Consider, that for every UAW auto job, it creates 8 or 9 other jobs. Advertising, a supplier, etc. I think to let America's auto industry, not just GM's, fail is a losing proposition. Those people have families & homes. Yes, I know people have lost jobs in all walks of life. I just think the U.S. auto industry is/ were/ icons.
You can't tell me u don't know a friend or family member, or somehow have someone u know that worked for the U.S. auto co.'s at some point & time. They probably put a roof over some heads.
Did the U.S. auto industry as a whole screw up back yrs. ago( I mean the 70's or whatever yr you fill it in) when the foreign nameplates came here? Yes.
They have improved their quality. I sure as **** don't wanna be driving some made in China or Korea P.O.S. today or tomorrow cause we just let it go down!
Here's the deal. The U.S. auto industry is facing the same as the U.S. economy as a whole, being reactive instead of proactive has creating this mess yrs. ago. When quality started slipping, take the steps. It's always, "OH ****, Now Look What Happened". Learn from mistakes & improve. It should be that way in all walks of life.

I drive a Chevy truck, and the other two vehicles I owned were chevy trucks(02 S10 and 01 ECSB Z71), they were great, I like the way they look and perform so I buy them. BUT, that doesnt mean they should continue to get hand outs at the expense of my pocket book.
How many other industries arent getting bail outs, the commercial construction industry isnt, its bigger than the auto industry, but we arent getting handouts. The closest thing to that is the stimulus for new roads but that is building something that we need, but new roads is a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the industry.
The main point I was getting at is, when one business fails it opens the door to another to prosper, perhaps one that better manages its assests, if it doesnt it will be doomed to the same fait as GM and Chrysler. Why should we as tax payers continue to bail out any and everyone who makes a booboo?
The Chevy and GMC nameplates is just assinine IMO, there is no reason for it, especially in these times. Anyone who would buy a GMC would buy a Chevrolet if it came down to it. There is a lot of money wasted on marketing the GMC moniker all over the web and TV, that could be money put towards the starving antenna installers at the factorys.
Point being, when a business has failed, others have moved in to fill the void. When cars starting becoming popular buggy manufacturers tanked, but guess what car manufacturers created new jobs. Just as with GM going under some other car company perhaps a better one will emerge.
Just because Im a Chevrolet owner doesnt mean I cant see the handwriting on the wall

General Motors to close or idle 12 more plants
General Motors Corp. said Monday it will permanently close nine more plants and idle three others to trim production and labor costs under bankruptcy protection.
The closures will displace 18,000 to 20,000 GM employees, the company said.
Six of the plants are in GM's home state of Michigan, which has already been hard-hit by job cuts in the auto industry.
GM's assembly plant in Wilmington, Del., will close in July, followed by its Pontiac, Mich., pickup truck plant in October.
Assembly plants in Spring Hill, Tenn., and Orion, Mich., will end production this fall but remain on "standby," meaning workers can be called back should the company need to increase production. One of those plants would be retooled to produce a subcompact vehicle that GM had originally planned to build in China.

well long ago you could go and get a chevy with extras, if it was too much you went over and got a bare bones gmc for less.
am radio with one speaker in the dash, rubber mats, no carpet, no over head fiber panel, hand crank windows, no ac, full bench seat, you know a good work truck you can beat the hell out of.
if you walk up to a dealership today and ask for a bare bones truck you will be
laughed off the lot.

...So instead we dump billions and billions into a company that has **** poor management and failing? To in the end only have them filing for bankruptcy anyway? That makes sense. Can i have some of my money back?
UAW? well thats one reason for the downfall of the american auto industry. cause you know that guy screwing in lightbulbs needs to make $30 dollars an hour

Serious? You really think the UAW did em in? Consider a lot of the workers rights & freedoms (Holidays off, fair work stds, etc.) were fought by union people who believed & even died for what many take for granted.

-U & I both know construction is like cars, it's cyclical.
-Yes, anyone would buy either GMC or Chevy if it came down to it.
-Perhaps, long as it's US, that's fine.
Keep all my bros & sisters( figure of speech since none work for auto) in this country workin.
I still want GM to succeed, tho.

I agree they should be allowed to fail..they will come back stronger that way IMO..The gov't wants them to take more money from them..They want to controll GM and make them dependent on the gov't. Thats how socialism works..It starts with the big names and will trickle down to everyone else....Also the Auto UNion workers talk about this and that but you also are part of the problem..I have worked in the oil and gas fields for almost 10 years have seen it get bad to the point we hall had to take PAY CUTS but you know what....I still had a job and my shop didnt close down...Y'all refused any consesions now look at y'all...could have took a pay cut and slowed the bleeding a little but instead y'all thought y'all were special compared to every other hard working american and now alot of ya will be sitting on your *** at home because of your stubborness to take a pay cut etc...I do not or have not kown anyone that worked for a auto union that I know of but I can tell ya that oil and gas effects everyone and buisness in some shape or form so did i/we get special treatment? Nope...paycuts and lay offs.

Ya, I did say before & I still agree, poor mgmt.

-Ya, the taxpayers always lose. They should have to pay back. Ya know, when they lean, hold back; when fat, pay back.

Yeah the unions seriously took a toll on GM. Look at the retiree benefits they pay that was pushed by the UAW.....i think its 2500 dollars GM starts in debt on each vehicle before they even put it on the lot due. The UAW pushed for every penny they could get without worrying about GM overall.

I always was told the same truck outfitted in a GMC will cost +~$700 in a GMC vs a Chevy. Salesman said so, it must be true.

If u yourself worked at a co., any co., for "x" amount of yrs. & they promised u "retiree benes", & u didn't get em, would u say that's fair?
