Its just like anything else Im sure you never really hear about the good experiences but you hear all about the bad ones. So I guess we've established the flu vaccine isnt causing me to get the flu but its damn sure not keeping me from getting it so Ill politely obstain from getting it from here on out. 22 out of 25 years I havent gotten the flu without the shot and 2 years out of 3 Ive gotten it with it, I like my chances being out on my own.

Nuclear Endless, u said being young, you're supposed to get flu shots regularly each yr., ... & it was a snowy week too.
Young? How young is that? Cause normally I think they (Drs.) mean flu shot is for little ones, elderly & immuno-suppressed.
A snowy week in Texas?!? Is that possible?
As BullyDogJason said, I too got a little soreness at injection site. But the other arm I got the pneumonia shot my Dr. advised me to get, was sore for 2-3 days. I was being careful noit to have anyone mess w/. me, but the 2nd, a boss unknowingly punched me in the arm. I wanted to tag him x2.
I never knew that; learn somethin every day.
That sounds reasonable, "once someone has their mind made up one way or the other, it's impossible to convince them otherwise."
What Grady said above & your reply leads me to think in a different way - what we perceive & what really is kinda thing.
I'd also think if one was to later get a flu of some kind, it'd eliminate affects of given strain(s) sooner as opposed to having a more lengthy sickness.
Dewey said a vaccine trick's your body into thinking it has whatever virus you've been injected with, causing your immune system to learn how to fight it - creating antibodies and such. That's about how my Dr. told me it works. That day I got the shots.
Hey Billy, u said you've never gotten a flu shot, but get sick all of the time...usually sinus or upper respiratory infections...You said u smoke so thought that's probably why. And when u quit smoking for 10 months once & didn't get sick the whole time. ...
DO I have to say anything?

Cody, true, just like anything else, u never really hear about the good experiences but u hear all about the bad ones. As humans, were negative bound. When in reality, we should key in on the positive.

The flu vaccine is an inactivated virus, it simply cannot cause the flu. That's the entire explanation.
The powers that be get together and formulate a vaccine with a certain number of strains (I can't remember of the top of my head, I think 3) that they think will be the most common for the upcoming flu season. There are many more strains of flu so getting a flu shot isn't a sure way to keep from contracting the flu, but it is a reasonable insurance policy. There are also other viruses that cause flu like symptoms that are outside of the influenza family that are very common as well. In addition, the flu vaccine usually takes 2 weeks to take effect so there is a window after you get the flu vaccine where you can get the flu although you've already been vaccinated.
There have been several studies done where participants received either a flu shot or a salt water injection and side effects were recorded. There were no differences in the complaints of body aches, runny noses, etc between the two groups. The only difference was more soreness at the injection site with those who received the flu vaccine but that's to be expected.
... I don't doubt that you did test positive for the flu but I'd bet the farm it wasn't a strain that you were vaccinated for. Like I said, a team gets together and tries to predict which strains will be most prevalent for the next flu season. It isn't a completely accurate science but they're usually pretty good.
Everyone is different so it could be that you may happen to be more susceptible to certain flu viruses that are more uncommon in the general population that isn't in the vaccination.

Like he said, the flu shot contains pieces of virus that our attenuated, or weakend. The chosen strains our produced and given to people, if you have "symptoms" a few days after the shot, you have to keep in mind the strain are still viral enough to make sure your body has an immune response. If it didnt elecit one, it would be completely worthless shot.
If at a later time you still get the flu, chances are you got a completely different strain than the one you were immunized from. ...

Yea Tom, I know the reality of things...I've quit smoking probably about 20 times now and always fail in the end. Gonna try and make a go at it again some time this year...last time I quit was last March when I got pneumonia...it only lasted about a month and a half until the stress of my impending divorce got to me.
You mentioned getting soreness at the injection site...as I mentioned, Rosie is required to get certain vaccinations by her day care, but the one for the flu is inhaled. She got two other shots (can't remember what for), one in each arm, and she was red, swollen, and blotchy for a few days...she kept telling everybody that she had surgery on her arm lol.
As for Cody, I'm assuming that you're starting to feel better now? Hope so, having the flu sucks
Stay well man

Yeah yesterday I felt pretty good and today I feel about 80% of my normal self. Just a little weak. If hadnt tried to work through it on Monday and Tuesday I probably wouldnt have gotten so bad but I was hard headed and thought I could tough it out. Kinda hard to tough out a 103.9 fever

I felt good enough today to finally do my efan conversion, after all the years Ive had my truck with stroker motors and all the goodies Ive NEVER had efans on my truck, figured it was time
Im still hacking up crap but no fever and gaining strength so Ill be good to go by Monday.

Altho the hard headed part is on par.

You must be kinda tough, to work w/. a fever like that. Man, when u get a fever, u do it in style. Isn't this like 3 days or so running fever of 100°+ temps?!? I know alot of people woulda never gone to work under those conditions. Are u hurting for $ or what? Wow! Just wow. I guess I'll cut u some slack.

It's good you're on the upside.
The efans thing I'm kinda surprised by esp. all that u say you've modded over the yrs. You've never had em on any of your rides?

Yeah I was living off dayquil and nyquil to try and control my fever but it only lasts about 4 hours before my fever would go back up and Id get busy working inevitably and forget to take my medicine. Ive got plenty of vacation time to take off from work I just dont like to call in. Ive worked for my company for 5 years and this is the third time Ive called in sick, 2 times for the flu and one time when my allergies got bad enough that my whole sinus cavity got infected enough I had to go to the ER and have them put a tube up in my sinuses to drain them, that was not fun.
Never put efans on my truck before, I had a set of FALs to go on it a few years back but parted the truck out before I put them on.

Nyquil FTW. Don't think I've ever used FTW before, sure didn't figure it'd be like this. I don't drink, so Nyquil works wonders for me. Actually, I don't use it even if I need to when I may only get a few hrs. I use it when I'll sleep more like 7-8 hrs. Otherwise, I tend to oversleep & be late for work. But then they inevitably call.
But I was sleepin so good.

But I was sleepin so good.
