A Kahr PM9 is on my list of pistols to grab. 9mm sub-compact packaged smaller than a j-frame. Gotta love that.

The reason I dont like a shotgun for home defense is:
-High recoil
-Too long
-Only able to fire from one position effectively
-Slower than a semi pistol
-The shot does not spread like everyone will lead you to believe, most shot especially the heavy shot like 00 takes YARDS not feet to spread so that is not an advantage unless youre shooting someone out on your front lawn
-Less magazine capacity than a semi pistol

Revolvers and shotguns IMO are novelty items or for hunting and are worthless for home defense. Just my opinion though as Im sure others disagree.
Interesting you think this way.... I wold take my tactical Remington 870 over any gun anyday if **** were to hit the fan... I would use a handgun to figh my way to the long arms but handgun would never be my primary weapon..

-Long guns are generally more accuarate than handguns...
-Multiple shot has much more likelihood of hitting at least one vital point
-Mulitlple wound trackt... 9 00 buckshot rnds would result in more wounding area than 33rnds of 9mm..
-Everytime I pull trigger, 15 .33 caliber rounds go(00Buck) compared to ONE .356(9mm) from the same trigger pull..
-Overall stopping power or a shotgun cannot be compared to almost all handguns..
-Racking sound is intimidating to most...
-Much less practice required to achive the same level of conpetence with a handgun..

BTW, why would they use long arms for clearing houses in Iraq...? They do carry handguns with them but that is why call them "sidearms"...
Anybody hwo prefers a handgun over a shotgun for Home Defence is too mall ninja for me...

haha i somewhat agree.. just noticed this part tho...

"9 00 buckshot rnds would result in more wounding area than 33rnds of 9mm.. "
How is this so? 00buckshot is like you said .33" where 9mm is .356"..
How can 9 peices of lead .33" result in more wounding area than 33rds of 9mm that measures .356"?

Just wondering, not arguing.

And one could argue the point that a shotgun isnt the greatest for close quarters, for you to aim it its gonna be sticking way out there unlike a pistol you can keep it close to you and not have to extend your arms to fire.

But then again there are hundreds of different ways to argue all the different points.

Wayyy off track,,, thread hijacking in progress!!

I can see where you are coming from... Hunting shotguns are long and are not very practical for home defence or urban fighting. I would still take my Remington 870 over any pistol for home defence..

Each round of 00 buck shot has 15 .33 caliber rounds.. My Remington 870 has a cabacity of 6+1 plus 6 in the saddle = 13rnds.. Each containing 15 .33 caliber rnds. 15 X .33 = 4.95 each 00 buck shot round.. Now multiply this by 13 rounds = 64.35

My Glock 17 with 33 rnd clip .356 X 33 = 11.748
