Default Fell asleep at the wheel last night...

...and hit a guard rail goin 70mph. Everything is ok tho and the damage is minimal because I woke up just before I hit. Scuffed the passenger fender behind the wheel, door, third door, cab behind third door and a little scuffage on the bed in front of the wheel and a little bit of roughness on the rim of the wheel. All in all I am thankful that I am still here and it is just a little metal that is hurt. The big guy upstairs helped me out last night, he woke me up at the right time....it would have been a lot worse. I went back to look at it today and if everthing would have happened about 4 seconds later or sooner I probly wouldnt be here to type this. Pretty rough stuff guys, if you are ever the least bit tired when driving just pull off and rest, it is not worth it and I was very lucky last night. I will post some pics up later of the damage. I was quoted $2300 at one place who does very high quality work and another who is not very good quoted me $900. I think I am just going to do some temporary repairs to it myself until I can afford to have it done right. I just got my truck back saturday from the whole tranny deal which ended up costing about $2200 all said and done. Now with this I dont know what I'm gonna do, but is gonna take me a while to save up to get her all patched up right.

First, glad to hear you are ok and unhurt. Very fortunate.
I also have had a couple of accidents where i had nodded (stone sober) at the wheel. Once i even hit someone (noone was hurt fortunately) and almost lost my license. Just pulling over and walking around a bit helped me where nothing else would.
Sucks for your truck but i would agree with you and wait till you can get a quality job done.

im always driving late. i hate spicey food but if i catch myself nodding ill stop at a gas station and buy a pepper or two. the hot **** that makes you wana cry it works for me. thats a last resort. usually the windows down and the subs cranked up will keep me awake enough.

Nice save. I've had that happen once, except the bass was my enemy. I was listening to eminem and i guess the beat just made me zone out....road curved I didn't. As soon as I felt myself go off the road onto the dirt shoulder I woke up and yanked the wheel the other way. Fish tailed all over the place but saved it, it wasn't even dark either.

Glad to hear you're ok. I have almost fell a sleep a few times. I had to slap myself in the face, roll the windows down, crank the radio, and punch myself in the jewels to keep from nodding off.

Glad to hear you are ok man, I have fell asleep myself but the rumble strips along the road saved me.

Studies have shown being tired is as bad as being drunk, possibly worse.

hey thanks guys, I think those rumble strips are what made me wake up, but the angle I had was so bad that I couldnt keep from hitting it. I was doing fine the whole trip(it was about a 40 min. drive to my house) and I had my 24 pack on Wired energy drinks in the back seat, I was actually drinking one when I dozed off...just wasnt strong enough..lol... but then I was justy thinking about getting home because it was about 2:45am and I had thew a/c on, bumpin some heavy metal and I should have stopped because I caught myself one other time before that.....I had went off on the left hand side and was coming close to catchint the concrete median on that one, but I guess I was to out of it(yes I was completly sober) to realize I needed to stop because both these incidents happened withing 1/2 mile of each other and I was about 3 miles from home....No more late driving alone for me!
