Theyre also talking about a class action lawsuit for dismal gas mileage on all the different ecoboost vehicles. Ecoboost equipped vehicles are set up to produce awesome mileage for the specific epa tests but put them outside of those parameters just a little and the mileage tanks. Guys are replacing the stock tires on the f150s with the same size tire but load range E and losing 3-4mpg. 33s knock em down from 21 to 15-16. Reliability wise though theyve been a pretty dang good success so I'd imagine your buddys is more of an exception rather than the rule. Theyre no worse than the shitty DOD gm engines reliability wise.

Company brother works for has a new Ecoboost that has chucked the turbo already and a friend has one that "loses power" but never throws a code and the dealership just tells him there is nothing wrong. There is a group trying to get Ford to recall them because of all the problems I'm told.

I don't mind bashing Ford but we all know that a boosted engine will get great millage if you stay out of a boost. Obviously assuming it is in good working order.

We also know once you start loading it up and making big boost numbers millage will drop considerably.

It is a very simple concept if you don't shove a ton of air in the engine it doesn't need much fuel, more air equals more fuel and down goes economy. So heavier wheels or tires, bigger load requiring more boost, or just wanting to enjoy the power of boost and you no longer are sipping fuel!

What Ford is going to run into is they didn't explain that word for word and anyone owning one figured they will get 30 mpg no matter how they drive.

The problem with that is the responsiveness of those high compression, easy revving tiny turbo'd engines.... Try to keep one out of boost. It won't happen red light to red light on a stock truck completely unloaded. They need the boost to get out of their own way... Otherwise you have a 3.5L engine in a fairly heavy tall geared truck, turning 20" wheels.... Turd city.

I hear you! We got some shortly before I was let go from my previous work. I wanted to drive one just to see how they did but never got a chance. The guy who had one was an idiot and you couldn't trust his answer on anything.

The taurus seems to do ok but the 1.6 and 2.0 are seeing 4-5mpg less than their sticker. Ive got to get the wife a new suv soon and was looking at the new escape with the 2.0 evoboost but it seems most are getting 26mpg at best on the highway vs their rated 30mpg. At that kinda mileage I'll get her a fullsize suv thats safer with morw room and pay a bit more at the pump.

The 3.5 ecoobost in the f150 for the 11 and 12 model was/is plagued by intercooler condensation problems in humid climates.
