Do you think this is totaled?

Wife got broadsided by a truck yesterday on her lunch break. Shes ok, but the car is in rough shape. It wasnt a direct t-bone since they were traveling in oposite directions and he crossed the center line and plowed into her. The center divider between both doors is pushing against the drivers seat pretty hard. I would like to total it cause seeing how it is know, I really dont want my wife driving it anymore. So what do you think?

If the metal support that holds the rear doors on is damaged then they will probably total the car. That load bearing member is attached to the roof and bottom if it gets bent inward it will pull the roof down and the bottom up making it very hard to repair. However the car looks like and Acura if I am not mistaken and inorder to total a car the amount of the repair has to be at least 70-80 (guessing) percent price of the vehicle, and that is an expensive car so I don't think they will total it.

The car is a 2005 Cobalt. I understand what you guys are saying. I have this gut feeling that they wont total it. I am just hoping that since the divider between the front and rear doors is pushed in they will just total it. KBB retail price is 14,000. That seems really high to me. 80% of that would be $11,200. Their might be half that much in damage really. Police report will be in on Monday. I will have a better idea on what we will do next. The guy may have had alcohol in his system. That would make things easier for us.

Since it's an 05, 80% is the basic standard used to determine whether or not it will be a total. Odds are, this one will need less than 6K to repair. About $2,500 in damage, $2,500 in labor. Of course, if they decide in needs complete doors including interior, this will drastically increase repair costs. More expensive is the airbags and seatbelt type equipment. If those things are bad, it's expensive because the average airbag goes for over $500 and some are more than $900 depending on the vehicle. The "B" pillar can be replaced w/o much cost for parts, but labor there is high because it will take time. Best of luck and as you know, all that matters is that loved ones walk away unharmed.

Yup, they said that they will be replacing anything that is damaged. Everything will be OEM parts. They estimated the cost to be at least 7500 bucks. Should take at the most 80 hours total. I should get it back by the beginning of next week. This shop said they guarantee their work 100% so that is cool.
