Do what I do: put in a low rev limiter tune / detune when visiting a shop that isn't 100% trusted. I use 3k rpm (no boost). I then tell them not to touch the tune or it won't run.

Believe it or not I've had a couple of people tell me the truck was messed up and wouldn't run out. One even asked if I detuned the truck and said "I wouldn't beat on it"... Just further underscored the need to detune for that shop.

Called the dealer from work inquiring about longblocks. Both the 5.3 and 6.0 brand new from GM are $3900. Labor to do a longblock swap is 22hrs at $85/hr, $1870. Total replacement cost $5770. I think they just need to cut me a check or give me a 6.0.
The crappy thing is if they hassle me, small claims court is only good to $5000. I would have to sue them in regular court to get the rest of the money.

get all the info together and see a lawyer about getting some type of settlement drawn up so both parties can avoid court, maybe theyll want to avoid the hassle and will take care of you, just a backup plan.

I worked at a dealership for three years and I can tell you that if you are not happy with the way the situation ends up with the service manager you can go to the general sales manager. The general sales manager has over riding decision on what goes on at the dealership..

The dealer just called me and the service advisor tells me he thinks we (the dealer and I) are both at fault. He says he shouldn't have even replaced my cats for me, says the turbo would void the warranty. If anything it runs cleaner now. Anyways he offers to put a brand new 5.3 with all the labor if I agree to "Participate" and pay $2000. If you are coming out the gate with that offer I am thinking they know they would loose in court I am not going to take that. He told me to sleep on it. His logic was I didn't tell them about the turbo and the methanol switch. Why should I have, it was going in to get cats fixed. Even if you had to do a test drive, why did the motor blow? When they do a test drive to they routinely wring the **** out of a motor??? Why would the tech flip the methanol switch if they didn't know what it did?? Back on track I think tommorow I will go in and say "I'll participate with $1000 if you put a 6.0 in there for me" a 6.0 is worth a thousand bucks to me. If they say no, guess I am going to court.

I would ask for the check. I guess it would be $4000-$5000 and either buy a bare 6.0 block for $400 and get a short block built or just get your 5.3 forged. You can build an awesome 408 shortblock for around $4000. Then save the rest of your money for a good set of cylinder heads.(AFR, AllPro, Darts or Edelbrocks all have a thicker deck so you dont have to worry about blowing head gaskets)
Good luck either way and dont give in.... If they give you to much trouble maybe a few of the guys off this site can go have a word or two with them.

thats a good idea to offer a $1000 for a 6.0 but if they say no get your truck outta the dealership and make sure everything aftermarket is still on the truck. good luck

Talked to a lawyer buddy of mine and he said they most certainly will not give me a check. While they are eating the cost of the labor @ $85/hr, they are really only loosing $15/hr on what they are paying the mechanic. Also dealers cost on the motor is probably around $2000, what they are asking me to pay. If they give me a check they would loose even more money. My buddy told me I might be better off to give them the $2000 under protest saying "I don't think it's my fault, but here's the money, I need my truck". If I do that I can still take them to small claims court to get my money back. Also if I am going to pay the $2000 I am getting a 6.0L.
