Basically it ended up the video card was 8x and my mobo was only 2x/4x capable

oh my, thats a pretty old board.
the card will clock it's self down to the speed of the boards slot,
but you will not get the full performance that the card was built for.

have you thought about upgrading your system.

Tower is 6-7 years old. Just something to play around with.

I have a macbook and plan on purchasing a 24" imac later this summer. Don't plan on keeping it after I get my imac.

well if your going to get rid of it.
how about giving it a good cleaning and giving it to someone in your family
that could use it.

Can't beat it. NewEgg and TigerDirect. Save the money and buy a bare bones kit. + it really isn't that hard to do, especially with all the forums and how-to's available on-line.

lol...my mom has a brand new IBM, my dad has an imac, my brother has a fujitsu something or other...it was sitting in our basement. i was just bored.

its an AGP card but i have come to terms it is not compatible as it is a 8x card and my old mobo is only 2x/4x capable.

yes, dusty, no, i won't clean it
