Default Computer/Techy guys, i need some help buying a network storage drive/server....

Well my old network storage drive died so i have been shopping for a new one...

this is what i need it to do.
1. install into our wireless network at home.
2. print server (at least 2 printers)
3. storage for backups, pictures, videos, etc... ( I would like file duplication or RAID)
4. I would like it to be compatiable with iTV or HP connect (which it will be hardwired via Cat5+ cable).
5. I would like to be able to access it via internet, for example, when i am at work i would like to access my files stored on the drive.

the only thing i have found within reason is HP MediaSmart home server... does anyone have experience with it? According to HPs website it can handle everything on my list.

Don't know anything about the one you mention but I can recommend the NetGear ReadyNas DUO. I have one with redundant terabyte drives and absolutely no complaints. Built in FTP and Bit Torrent. It will meet all your requirements with the exception of a print server. Not sure about the Media Server you mention but it has several built in media services and works great.

Well from my reading the HP media server runs a scaled down version of Windows home server OS. So Print server capability it included from what i have read.

I have the older HP Media EX485. But the only thing I'm using it for right now is storing all our files and backing up my PC and wife's laptop.
It's a pretty nice little unit and I wish I had more time to get more things setup on it.

I'm not sure about #2, do these work as print servers? If they do I need to look into that.

Just looked through some of the HP Mediasmart forums and yes you can set it up as a print server. Sweet

Most printers now can work through a wireless router or at least use Lan into a router. That could be an option should you not be able to get that feature.

I have mine hooked into the router.

You could just have a dedicated computer that could do all that.
