the guy was probably saying it needed to be replaced before it caused a leak or something.

Our family shop is a Mr. Transmission and there are a few out there (like the one 20 miles away from us) that really screw people over and that gives us a terrible name. I hate that someone is doing this crap in a Firestone because it will only give the entire company a bad name instead of just the one shop. You understand that they are independant but most people wont and will believe they are all like that.

The **** about scamming women really pisses me off. Those folks better watch out because most women will know their car better than most men too, and i cant wait until they all run across one of them.

i know they are independently operated and im not going to hold a grudge on all of them over this incident, only the one it happened at.

i went to the other one here in town today and expressed my disgust with the other store and asked for an alignment and they turned me away saying that they knew what happened yesterday and didnt need that there, lol. jackasses

Well then **** a firestone. Ive had good luck with one in nederland before but....I'm with Ben, why mess peoples stuff up, it really takes a crooked person to do stuff like that. I do a lot of side-mechanic work, and I go the extra mile and detail the car for them, and if I see stuff that NEEDS to be changed I'll suggest it, otherwise I try to do the best job I can.

I just got pissed for you man. LOL.

I do all my own work except trannies and alignments like you said. I just decranked the truck a little bit, and while I've had somewhat good luck with the tireshop down the road, I am not looking forward to dropping it off for alignment.

The last time I did I pulled the tech aside and told him everything I did, and what I wanted out of his alignment. I had no problems, so I'm hoping to do the same this time. The time before that, I just dropped it off, right after I originally lowered the truck, and come to find out the tech had cranked one of my keys back up and the truck sat unlevel.

Well right now the mother f'er sits perfect on both sides so all he needs to do is straighten it out.

I dont think there is anything that says you cant stand at the door of the bay and watch every move he makes. Thats what I been doin.

so you are ssaying he did me a favor by poking a hole in the boot to see if it was leaking? not all shocks have boots on them, every single rack i have ever seen has had boots on them with those high pressure clamp deals on them, why use such high pressure clamps if its just there for looks anyway?

go poke a hole in the boot on your truck and tell me if it drips power steering fluid or not.

The boots are just dust covers to keep the seals protected. if he suspected a leaking rack seal he probly should have showed you first and said he could pull the boot off to see or poke a hole with your permission, but pooking a hole in the rack boot should not have caused the leak just discoverd it.

Exactly what he said above and what I have been trying to explain to you. The boots do not hold fluid in, that's what the seals are for. It sounds like you need to replace the rack. I'd recommend changing the rack out and the joints that are worn with quality Moog products. I'm sure that's why they said they were bad again, as the joints used last time were cheap overseas pieces. I'm here to help you out, but also to explain the shop wasn't completly at fault. They shouldn't have poked a hole in the boot with out your permission though. They weren't going to remove the clamps because they are special clamps and you can tell a leaky rack without removing or poking a hole in the boot.

I know not all shocks have boots, but I used that to help explain to you that the boot is nothing more than a shield to protect the joints, seals and shaft. I've dealt with 100's of racks and changed personally 3 on the truck below. Sometimes we don't even run the boots. The Silverado racks are weak and leak it's just a fact. I'd get the facts straight before threatening a shop with legal action next time.

i have already replaced the rack and tierod ends, did it yesterday. if it needed to be replaced so be it but i know there was no hole in the boot when i took it up there and it definitely wasnt dripping like it was when he showed it to me. the whole deal just pissed me off, especially when he decided to go eat lunch with my truck still in the air on the rack and had his manager hand me an estimate for $1100 and it didnt even include replacing the rack. if he had been able to show me i needed to replace the rack without poking holes in **** i would have been understanding about it, the guy just went about the whole situation wrong and his managers were about as crooked and ignorant as he was. i dont deal well with people like that

The whole lunch thing is BS. Had a guy try to do that to me after I'd been waiting for an alignment for 4 hours already because NTB is full of ******* idiots.

$1100 is ridiculous.
