89' Century trans issue...fluid type...?
#1
Ok so its that time of year again when the ol' beater has to come out. However im having an issue in my 4cyl 1989 Buick Century. It hesitates quite a bit going into 3rd gear. It seems like a seal has rolled/is rolling and although i know a trans rebuild is due coming up, im hoping i can hold that off for the winter.
Now, what kind a trans fluid should i use? I know for a manual that i had issues with, i threw some GM synchromesh in there and the problem was gone. So im hoping there is a secret fix to at least help/slow down this failing process.
Currently there is clean fluid in there, along with a Lucas additive that i added myself. It looks like not long before i bought it, which was about a year ago, a trans service was done...im wondering if maybe the wrong fluid was used?

Dexron 3 is the fluid type....As far as additives, Lucas works the best according to the people that used to come into my old work. If that doesnt fix it, may just have to rebuild....Of course, I always heard you could put limited-slip additive(like goes in a differential) and it would make it work like a champ. Although I wouldnt put that in there unless you were looking to sell it!
