I def love being able to blow the tires off @ a 40-50 mph roll, puts a smile on my face, but in the same aspect, I hate it when I can not race people from a dead stop, knowing damn well it will be a waste.. I sometimes wish I had 4wd, so I could push a button, win the race in the first 20 ft. LOL

Maybe so, but what I was giving was a answer to your question. It is about fun and a little more skill. A high HP 2wd truck doesn't expect to win a drag race from a red light. I am no longer a track queen so personally I wish mine was AWD. A high hp 2wd with good tires would outrun the same hp in a 4wd due to weight alone, not considering proper weight transfer. 2 drive tires in the rear will get better traction than 4 with the front 2 wasting power when the weight transfers off of them.
Just my .02
There is a place for all of them and the best place is hauling or pulling something. They are trucks! That's why mine has a Class III hitch and trailer brake controller while banging gears on the work commute.

I guess your right, no fun if you want to get into it hard. However, the fun is the Holy-**** factor when half gas somkes the tires from 30 mph. I do mostly x-way driving anyway, so I am usually at the perfect speed to nail it when ever the need arises.

I don't know about you guys, but I definitely don't go to the lake or the dunes pulling a boat or a toy hauler without something in the bed. Not necessarily for traction, but because I need the space to haul stuff. If I planned on having an empty bed, I would have bought an SUV... 500lbs and a locker/LSD differential goes a long way, so you don't have a lot to worry about. As far as truck functionality, 2WD is doable as long as you don't drive like a jackass and expect your truck to behave like its driving on glue.
Now for street races...2WD or 4WD, you WILL lose traction if you have enough power, or hell, even if you just hit the powerband just right. Best part is, people who are willing to street race know this, so its really not that hard to convince them to run from a roll.
