Default November 07 TOTM: Explorer5.0

Congrats Buddy!

explorer5.0

I bought this truck about 4 years ago. It was completely stock but had the one thing I was looking for- a V8. I had an Explorer previous to this and loved it. I got rid of the Explorer in favor of a heavily modded Bravada- but I still missed the Explorer. So I started looking for another Explorer, and I had to have a v8. I just couldnt find one aroune here anywhere- so, I had just given up and decided I'd keep the Bravada a little longer. One night I was driving home after dropping my girlfriend off and spotted my current Explorer at the dealership from which I have bought all of my vehicles. Well, the next day the Bravada got traded for the Explorer.

Back then I was into lifted vehicles, so naturally it got lifted. I had offroad accessories on it including a prerunner front bumper, safari rack, and tube rear bumper. After I got it like I wanted it(as I though), I decided I wanted a second vehicle that was fast.

I looked at a few Mustangs and LS1 cars, but the insurance prices kept me from moving forward with that idea. So I decided I'd just make the Explorer fast.

SHOW:

Lowered 2"
20x8.5 black wheels
265/50/20 Goodyear Eagles
black euro tails
custom built LED puddle and license lights
6000k HID headlights
Emblems replaced with 5.0 emblems
DVD/MP3 Head unit
6.5" flip out monitor
Terk Commander XM molded into radio surround
custom built console to hold wideband and boost gauge
8" subwoofer in stealthbox powered by factory sub amp

GO:

5.0 Engine w/ GT40p heads and intake
Holset HX35 turbocharger, remote mount
38mm wastegate
mandrel bent charge pipes
Greddy RS BOV
STS Turbo oil return pump
90mm Lightning MAF
39lb Cobra injectors
Autolite 103 copper plugs
Walbro GSS342 255L fuel pump
AEM air filter with Outerwears cover
remote mounted intercooler with fan
AEM wideband, permanent mount
SCT Xcalibrator 2- Tuned by James Henson of Henson Performance

So, off came all of the offroad stuff and I lowered the truck. I used my original 20's, which previously were wrapped in offroad rubber, and put smaller tires on them. After I got the stance right, I moved onto the subject of performance. After looking at the superchargers available for my truck and what power levels they were capable of, I got it in my head I'd have to go turbo. I had visited the STS turbo website numerous times watching videos and dreaming. After looking at their design I said to myself " I can build that".

So that is exactly what I did. My friends asked me why a remote turbo over an underhood install- then I open my hood and show them just how little room there is in there. I also have alot of people aske me why I would do this to an Explorer. Well, I guess I just like being different- and I love the strange looks I get when people hear my truck, and the looks on the faces of the ricers when they get annihilated from the stoplights.

I would I'd like to thank all that nominated me for Truck of the Month. I like that the GM majority can still appreciate a Ford

Sick!

I couldn't tell, but were the tires spinning once you stepped on it?

It's AWD, so it didnt light the tires up, but it did raise the front a little and I could tell the front axle was pulling If it wasn't AWD, they probably would have started spinning.
