WTF? My TBSS just freaked
#1
So I was coming home from work the yesterday and rolled up on a new C6 Vette. We both know whats about to go down when the signal turns green. So as it did, we both took off, only at about 5000 rpms in 1st gear, my tranny just let go, my speedometer dropped to 0 and my radio cut out, all at the same time. So I pull into a parking lot immediatly and check all the vitals of my SS- oil pressure was good, volts at 14, temp good. About 10 seconds after I pulled into the parking lot, my radio came back on and my speedo went to 140 and back to 0. I put in it nuetral, then back into drive, and it went into gear fine. I drove it the rest of the way home being cautious about what it did, and it drove fine. I drove it today again and put it through its paces and seems to be acting fine..
Anybody ever have this happen to them??

wierd... did the motor stall or anything? I wonder if you have a loose battery cable or soemthing? check out the battery to make sure it's secure and connections are tight along with anything else that may move when launching

Most Likely A Loose Connection, Or A Wire Loom With Not Enough Slack, And You Stretched It Or Tweaked It Just Right, So That It Probably Just Hung Up A Lil.... I Wouldnt Worry Too Much About It. With All Of The Electronics In These Things.... As Long As It Doesnt Have Any Lasting Effects... Let It Go...
Weve Seen The Oil Pressure Sensor Rupture Internally And Shut The Engine Off At Wot. If It Sees No Oil Pressure It Will Shut Down.
So Trust Me Yours Is Pretty Good. You May Want To Check The Vss Connector... Those Have Come Loose A Few Times.

My Harley did it once. I had just had some mod done and an exposed wire caused a short which tripped a circut. It automatically reset in a few minutes. My bike is 16years old, dont know if these things still run that type of technology but....

My 99 Trans Am did that when one of the grounds for the engine bay harness was loose. We'd just installed heads/cam and my friend who was helping me forgot to tighten the bolt down after threading it in by hand.
It was actually a group of 3 grounds that attach to the rear of the drivers side head... no idea where those are on a TB SS. Good luck though.

definately a melted or exposed wire somewhere up there.. start the search!! when I was relooming my wires, cause the factory job was atrocious (justpeeling tape and reapplying it the right way) I found a wire that had a little copper showing, WTF right? I justt taped it up.. happens all the time. My last new GM, an05' GP GXP had 200mi on (90 coming home from the dealer) when the Service Stabilitrack/TC light came on, after two visits and multiple modules replaced it was a harness pinched by the center console on assembly at the factory (Dam Canadians!!)...

When I had a GTP it did that once when I was playing with the speedo scalers (put on different size tires). There are counters in the trans and the wheels that need to match. Once they don't match the system starts freaking out. My Onstar light even started flashing. It sounds like you had a similar event. My guess is a communication issue between the TCM and ECM (caused by tuning or wiring).
